Diagram showing weight distribution on a truck and towing a camper

Create a stable ride for your tow vehicle and trailer with a weight distribution (WD) system. Adding load bars to your towing system applies leverage, which transfers the load that is pushing down on the rear of your vehicle to all the axles on both your tow vehicle and your trailer, resulting in an even distribution of weight throughout. The result is a smooth, level ride, as well as the ability to tow the maximum capacity of your hitch.

A New Way to Solve Sway

When your tongue weight is perfectly balanced, you can achieve sway control without the need for additional sway bars or noisy, friction-inducing brackets. The Continuum allows you to do just that. The single-piece load bar assembly on this system is designed to transfer weight off of the coupling point and evenly disperse it over the axles of your truck and trailer instead.

Other weight distribution systems require a ton of manual adjustment to get the weight balanced. You might have to switch out chain links or play around with the height of frame brackets to get the right tension on the spring bars. The tilt of the system head might need to be adjusted too to get the load distributed. But even with those adjustments, it can be almost impossible to fine-tune the system enough to get your tongue weight perfectly balanced.

The Continuum eliminates those manual adjustments and instead uses hydraulic pressure to raise and lower the load bars. This makes it way easier to activate the weight distribution because you only have to pump the handle on the driver's side. You won't need to circle your trailer to snap spring bars up individually. It also lets you quickly and easily fine-tune the tension to get your ride just right.

Faster, Safer, Easier Setup

When you first install the Continuum, it might take a bit of time to get the load bar assembly, hydraulic cylinder, and hydraulic pump mounted on your trailer. But once everything is in place, setting up the system each time you tow is a snap.

The B and W weight distribution hitch installed on a camper as it turns a sharp corner

The hitch head - which mounts in your vehicle's receiver and provides the attachment point for the Continuum - features a preset angle, so the only adjustment you might need to make is to move the head up or down along the shank. Unlike other weight distribution systems, you won't need to change out any hard-to-reach washers or readjust the tension on spring bars to get set up. The head also has friction sway control built in to help hold your trailer in line at the coupling point.

A side view shows the B and W Continuum installed hooked up on a truck inside a garage

Instead of rigid steel spring bars that have to be manually snapped into place, the Continuum has a composite load bar assembly that raises with a pump of a handle. This assembly uses a flexible composite material called LiteFlex, which is strong enough to handle heavy loads, yet flexible enough to ensure that you won't have a rough, rigid ride at lower tongue weights. Because of this, the Continuum can handle anything from a small enclosed trailer to a large camper, allowing the system to grow with you.

An etrailer teammate kneels next to a trailer, demonstrating how to use the hydraulic pump on the B and W Continuum

Once you get your trailer hooked up and you're ready to transfer your load, just pump the handle on the hydraulic unit. This will raise the rear of the load bar assembly to distribute your tongue weight.

The knob on the side of the hydraulic unit allows you to back off some of the pressure you pump in so you can dial in just the right amount to get your towing setup balanced. Take note of the psi reading on the built-in pressure gauge once you're done, and record it in the included log for the next time you tow.

If you start to experience a bumpy ride while towing with the Continuum, it might be a sign that you've moved too much weight off of the connection point. Fixing this is simple: find a place to park and turn the built-in adjustment knob on the pump unit to release some pressure.

Selecting a Weight Distribution System

The tongue weight rating is the most important factor in determining which size weight distribution system you should use. If the bars of the system you choose are rated too high for your setup, they will create a rigid ride, which can result in a bouncing trailer. If, on the other hand, the bars are not rated high enough, the system will be unable to properly distribute the weight, rendering it virtually useless.

To determine the proper weight rating for a weight distribution system, you must first determine your trailer's tongue weight. Then add to that the weight of the cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. These two measurements make up the tongue weight rating for a weight distribution system.

I am very happy I chose the B&W continuum. I had reservations and educated myself with all of the options out there before choosing. Let me start with the rig. Trailer is a 37 foot Flaggstaff with a 1,100lbs tounge weight, 11,260 GVW and we tow with a 2015 F350 diesel.
Installation took about four hours and the instructions were very detailed. I did have to make a few modifications to the LP tank brackets along with moving some of the wiring. In my case the truck and trailer leveled out perfectly at 1500lbs on the guage.( more on fine tuning later)
Our first trip was a 600 mile round that included both main freeways, two lane back roads and city streets.
The first thing I noticed was how fast the truck and trailer recovered from big bumps in the road. In the past i was used to the porposing effect that sometimes seemed to go on for ever. The continuum settled it out in seconds. the ride was so effortless I found myself very relaxed and drove with one hand most of the time.
I drive right about the speed limit so at 70mph on the freeways i did experience being passed by trucks. When they passed by a couple MPH i only noticed a minor suck in a push out on the trailer. when they flew by to my amazement it was almost unnoticable. The trailer was very stable at all times and tracked straight with almost no sway at all.
I am glad we had the windy conditions since that was one of my biggest concerns with not having the typical bar design. I would say that the worst of the wind was around 20 mph with gusts up to 30. Again i was happy how it performed. there was movement of the trailer but nothing that was white knuckling at all.
We made stops along the way and each time i checked the pressure guage and it was always right were I set it except once. I noticed that the ride seemed to be a bit stiffer and when I checked the guage had climbed to 1750lbs. Now to be fair I did not set it on level ground when I hooked up and set it to 1500lbs so that may have caused it. in addition to the stiff ride i also noticed on the TPM that the rear trailer tires had heated up 4 degrees more than the front axle. So i decided to lower the pressure to 1350 and see what happened. To my surprise the pressures evened back out and the ride was even better at that setting.
I plan to use 1350 from now on.
They are right that fine tuning makes a difference in ride quality but for me it was the tire pressure control was a bonus.
I hope this helps you with your decision on what to by for your towing.
I am happy with mine

Thats an awesome review! Thank you for taking the time to share all that first hand experience with us! Im thrilled that you have had a great experience! Do you have the next trip in the books yet?

Hitch has been great for the last year. Towing a 12k lb 30ft Toy Hauler when loaded with a Ram 2500. Have towed only about 2k miles in the last year and have had zero issues. When passing or being passed by big rigs or other RV’s I haven’t had any sway.

Setting it up and taking it off is very simple compared to my previous wdh I had with the torsion bars.

by:

I have only used the Continuum hitch twice since I bought it and so far it seems to be a great product . I actually told one of my coworkers about it today 4/18/2024 and he was really interested in it. Of all the weight Distribution hitch this is far the best I’ve ever owned.

by:

It did phenomenal. We were in back roads, 40 mph cross winds on the highways and it handled it all very well. Set up was nice and easy. Nicole R at etrailers was amazing and made sure I got it on time for my trip.

by:

Love this hitch, works awesome with my toyhauler. Varying tongue weights with or without SxS in the back, this makes it extremely fast and easy to get this set up.

So far, I’ve towed 1000 miles with a 2018 Diesel F350 SB pulling a 30 foot TT that weighs about 10k lbs on highway and single lane roads on level and through mountains. The Continuum certainly is easy to hook up and unhook, it helped ride quality by reducing porpoising and sway. Made truck suck and bump non existent. Very easy to fine tune by pulling over with a half pump or to relieve pressure. The instructions, materials and workmanship of the parts were very good.
Overall it made my ride quality much better and sets up easier than most other wdh. This hitch certainly has a higher price point but the easy adjustability helped me justify paying the higher price for it.

Ordered this hitch on Friday afternoon at 5 pm and received on Tuesday morning. Watched install videos and took approximately 2 hours to install due to having to notch propane rack and move battery ground cable. Works like a champ.

by:

Fast shipping, another great product of B&W. The installation was straight forward and very fast. Easy to use and worked perfectly for my application.

by:

Unboxing I found the pump release valve was bent looked like it was cut I did straighten it up so far it seems to be OK have traveled a little over 300 miles performed really well with the Heartland Torque T 314 it smoothed the ride out tremendously the handling was a big improvement over my last hitch and very quite ride great hitch

by:

Great product etrailer and bandw top notch companies!

by:

This hitch is the bomb. As soon as I got it I installed it. Pretty easy, I barley glanced at the directions due to watching a few install videos on YouTube. I had to make a few very slight modifications to my trailer but zero issues. I highly recommend this product.

by:

Very good quality, performers better than expected. The only thing I would add is locking hardware. Nylocks for the actuator mount and lock washers on the pump bolts. I'm a licensed A&P mechanic so I like hardware that stays tight. Otherwise this product is great

by:

Great hitch. Fairly easy insulation.

Since purchasing this hitch I have spent 10 months using it continuously. It has approximately 10,000 miles on it as of now. I can safely say that I have had no problems using this hitch. The only problem was caused when my tongue jack plate scraped the side of one of the composite bars and caused the material to splinter. See photo for detail. I love the ability to add pressure as needed to move weight forward on the vehicle. If my load is heavier I can use the pump handle to add more pressure. The installation was a little bit tricky and took me half a day. This included having to pull the trailer to a flat location to ensure appropriate install. I can back up with full range of motion without needing to unhook anything. It only makes noise if it gets dey. No more being that guy clanking his way into the campground late at night with traditional sway bars. I have never regretted my choice to buy this cutting edge hitch. A final note, I have maintained my Continuum by cleaning it, lubing it with white lithium grease, and using a grease gun on the pin block.

by:

All around great hitch. Pulls well no sway even with semis going by. Had 1 problem one of the spring clips came or was taken off. The hitch load bar came loose while under 1000 lbs pressure made a hell of a noise I was lucky I was only going 25 mph when it let go. I got it fixed well enough to get me home called b&m no problem they said new parts on the way. Very happy with hitch pricey but worth it. 2017 1/2 ton Chevrolet Silverado Firestone bags on the rear 5.3 chip tuned motor 2019 Keystone passport 2512 travel trailer 6000 lbs dry6500 wet and loaded was looking at Hensley. And saw this when it first came out at the rv shoe. Very tuneable esp with airbags.

Thanks to Tammie B for taking my original order. After my order arrived with missing parts and broken hydraulic unit due to rough handling by UPS, Daniel P, after receiving photos from me, got a replacement hitch authorized, return labels sent, product pulled, labeled, & picked up by UPS all before closing time on a Friday. He was amazing to jump thru all of those hoops to make it right and quick. Received the packages the following Tuesday in pristine condition from UPS. Installed on a 2023 Flagstaff Classic 826mbr with 6" frame and large propane tanks which were a problem. The large tanks have a tray welded to the frame that includes a 5" vertical support frame also welded to the frame. I had to cut vertical slots in the support 3 1/2" front & 3" rear both 3" wide for the hydraulic cylinder and hoses to move. Other than that the installation was bolt on. Nothing to move or relocate. Pressure used was 1700 pounds. Works great and keeps this 72 year old man from having to strain to lift spring bars on the usual hitches. Other benefits are sway control improvement, connect everything from one side, quiet when making corners & controls porpoising when driving thru dips. It is worth the money spent

by:

Love the WD function and the ease of install and adjustment. The anti sway does not seem to be as aggressive as the Anderson I ran on a smaller trailer/vehicle combination. Anderson's tapered friction shank really stops sway nicely, but their system is a bit more finicky to set up than the Continuum. Overall, very impressed with the build quality, innovative design, ease of installation and WD function. I would reccommend this to any friends towing a larger trailer.

Thanks for the Follow-up.

by:

Best set up for my truck and camper. . No sagging and great sway control! I have a f150 pulling 32ft camper. Going 70-75 mph with ease. Worth every penny. Only suggestion need an easier solution when leaving the camper to be serviced . I have to tie the bars up so others can tow without having to leave your hitch with them.
